If you have an uneven smile, which can mean crooked, overlapping, or crowded teeth, then you require orthodontic treatment. You may assume this means metal braces, however, we’re proud to offer an alternative with clear plastic aligners. Find out if Invisalign is right for you.
The Dangers of Misalignment
An uneven smile can have a major impact on your oral health. First, crooked or crowded teeth can make brushing and flossing your teeth properly and thoroughly difficult, increasing the risk of tooth decay and gum disease. In addition, the strain misalignment places on the jaw joints can lead to a greater chance of TMJ disorder and bruxism developing. You can also feel uncomfortable with your smile, which can have a negative impact on your overall quality of life. We always urge patients with an uneven smile to talk about possible orthodontic solutions.
The Invisalign System
Instead of relying in metal brackets and arch wires, we will take digital impressions and photographs, which will be used by an Invisalign lab to create a set of clear plastic aligners. You then wear the aligners every day for between 20 and 23 hours, without exception (although you can remove them for meals or when brushing/flossing your teeth). About once every two weeks you will upgrade to a new set as your teeth are gradually and gently repositioned. The entire treatment takes between a year and 18 months, depending in the severity of your misalignment.
Do You Qualify?
We can use clear plastic aligners to correct smiles in patients of all ages, from children to teens and adults. We will look at the cause of your uneven smile, as well as the extent of your misalignment, before recommending treatment. If you have any questions about clear aligners, then please contact our office today.
