Can Children Wear Invisalign?

We’ve discussed Invisalign in the past. As an alternative to braces, this option helps patients obtain straighter smiles without relying on metal braces. Who qualifies for treatment? Can children wear Invisalign? You may be surprised to learn how many patients, both young and old with minor and severe misalignment, can benefit from clear aligners.

Clear Aligners for Patients of All Ages

If you have an uneven smile, we will perform a thorough examination to assess the cause and severity of your misalignment. From there, we can decide if Invisalign is the best treatment option. We have used clear aligners to correct alignment issues for patients of all ages, some as young as seven. The aligners will be custom-made at an Invisalign lab based on impressions, x-rays, and other materials we have gathered.

How Do the Aligners Work?

Once the aligners have been created, you will wear a set every day for between 20 and 23 hours, only removing them for meals or when brushing and flossing your teeth. About every two weeks, you will upgrade to a new set as your teeth are gradually and comfortably repositioned. Total treatment time depends on the seriousness of your misalignment, but on average adults take about a year and teens may need up to 18 months.

Advantages Over Braces

People prefer the aligners to braces because they are practically invisible when worn, so no need to worry about your orthodontics’ influence on your professional appearance. In addition, the aligners are comfortable, sparing patients from the gum and cheek irritation often encountered with metal braces. Being able to remove them before meals means you don’t have to change your diet.
