We’ve often discussed in our blog the positive impact that orthodontics can have on your smile. Today, we’re going to show you firsthand how Invisalign can help patients enjoy healthier, straighter, and more attractive smiles. When Dr. Witte visited our office, we started him on treatment using clear aligners. Soon, he obtained a significantly improved smile. How does Invisalign improve smiles? Who qualifies for this unique cosmetic treatment?
Invisalign and Dr. Witte
As you can see from these pictures, Dr. Witte’s upper front teeth experienced major crowding and were positioned behind the lower front teeth. Fortunately, we were able to offer an orthodontic solution, reducing the stress and wear on his teeth. By removing the stress from his teeth, we increased the likelihood of his teeth lasting a lifetime.
How Do Clear Aligners Work?
Instead of using tension from adjusting an arch wire attached to brackets on the front of the teeth, Invisalign employs a series of clear aligners. The aligners are custom-made using a BPA-free plastic and based on detailed impressions, images, and x-rays gathered of your smile. The aligners are worn every day, typically between 20 and 23 hours, removed only for meals, when you brush and floss, or special occasions. Approximately once every two weeks you will upgrade to a new set. The total treatment time for an adult takes around a year for adults and up to 18 months for teens.
How Do I Get Started?
First, contact our office. For new patients we offer a free cosmetic consultation. The doctor will look at your smile and assess the cause and severity of your misalignment. We recommend clear aligners for patients over the age of 16 that have minor alignment problems. If you are a good candidate for clear aligners, we will take impressions and gather other information so the Invisalign lab can create your aligners.
