As part of our approach to cosmetic dentistry, we offer orthodontic treatment. Correcting issues with your alignment can improve oral health and your smile’s overall appearance. If you have crowded or crooked teeth, which orthodontic system will best address your concerns? Do you need Invisalign or Six Month Smiles to improve your smile’s alignment?
We can correct minor cases of alignment for patients 16 and older with Invisalign. Treatment involves wearing a series of clear plastic aligners, upgrading to a new set about once every two weeks. Total treatment takes between a year and 18 months, depending age and the severity of misalignment. The aligners are practically invisible. You can remove them before eating or when brushing and flossing. In addition, many patients report them to be more comfortable than metal orthodontics.
Six Month Smiles
We have another option that can correct misalignment in as little as three to six months. Patients should be over the age of 16. This option works best for minor cases of misalignment, such as someone who once had braces and their teeth have since drifted slightly. Treatment consists of clear brackets and tooth-colored arch wires placed onto the teeth. The braces are less noticeable than traditional metal alternatives.
The Complications of Misalignment
How does misalignment impact our smiles? First, uneven smiles make brushing and flossing difficult, increasing the risk of tooth decay and gum disease developing. In addition, an uneven smile can place inordinate amounts of pressure on the jaw joints, leading to a greater risk of TMJ disorder and bruxism (teeth grinding/jaw clenching) occurring. By correcting misalignment, you can improve oral health and boost your smile’s beauty. If you have any questions about either Invisalign or Six Month Smiles, then please contact our office today.
