Who Benefits From Invisalign?

At Calcagno Cosmetic and Family Dentistry, Dr. Calcagno has the rare distinction of being an Invisalign Preferred Provider. She has performed many procedures and has the skills and knowledge necessary to help you achieve an even smile. But who benefits from Invisalign? Can anyone obtain a straighter smile from clear aligners?

Can Anyone Receive Treatment?

Who qualifies for clear aligners? That depends on a number of different factors. Typically, patients are over 16 years of age, meaning their mouths have stopped developing and growing. We also look for people with more minor alignment issues. People with severe malocclusion will benefit most from traditional orthodontics. We will examine your smile to assess the factors behind your misalignment and the severity of your uneven smile. We can then decide if this is the best choice for improving your alignment.

How Does Invisalign Work?

Invisalign takes a very different approach to correcting misalignment. Instead of relying on metal brackets and arch wires to reposition teeth, this system uses a series of clear plastic aligners. Patients wear the aligners for 20-23 hours a day, upgrading to a new set about once every two weeks. The entire treatment period takes about a year for adults. Teens may require up to 18 months to see optimal results. The aligners are custom-made and gently reposition the teeth.

What are the Advantages of Clear Braces?

Clear braces offer a number of different benefits when compared to more traditional forms of orthodontic treatment. Benefits may include:

  • Plastic aligners are more comfortable than metal orthodontics
  • They are barely noticeable when worn
  • In some cases, the treat time is less than traditional orthodontics
  • The treatment typically requires fewer office visits
  • You don’t need to avoid certain foods as aligners are removed before meals
  • Removable aligners can make brushing and flossing teeth easier
