Common Questions About Pediatric Dentistry

Question: What technology do you employ?

Answer: When we examine a child’s smile, we want to gather a clear and detailed view of the child’s oral health. To do so, we perform an exam using digital x-rays and intraoral cameras. The digital x-ray uses up to 80% less radiation and doesn’t need harsh chemicals to develop. We can instantly show the patient the results of the x-ray and identify decay in the earliest stages. Intraoral cameras are digital cameras attached to a small wand, allowing to dentist to comfortably gather images of the child’s teeth and gums in order to perform an accurate diagnosis.

Question: How soon should my child see you?

Answer: The first visit should occur once the initial baby tooth erupts. This treatment doesn’t typically involve treatment of any kind. The dentist will simply look to make sure the teeth are erupting properly.

Question: Does a small child need to brush and floss?

Answer: Yes. Once the first tooth arrives, you should start cleaning the child’s teeth with a piece of cloth or gauze. As more teeth arrive, an age-appropriate toothbrush will be needed. Once teeth erupt and come in contact with one another, use a floss pick to gently floss between the baby teeth,

Question: How often should my little one have a checkup?

Answer: Around age two or three we will recommend a routine checkup once every six months.
