FAQs: What are Bonded Fillings?

When we develop cavities, restoration is crucial for preventing infection and preserving the tooth. With bonded restorations, we can provide a lifelike solution to dental caries. What are bonded fillings? At Calcagno Cosmetic and Family Dentistry, we can use a restoration to help you enjoy a healthy and functional smile.

Frequently Asked Questions About Bonded Fillings

Question: Why do we need fillings?

Answer: We recommend them to repair a tooth that has developed a cavity. We can also use the same material to restore the missing tooth structure if a tooth becomes chipped or broken. The entire procedure can be completed in a single visit.

Question: How are they placed?

Answer: First, we remove decay from the teeth and them thoroughly clean it. We then place the filling material into the tooth and cure it with a special light. The tooth is then polished to ensure a more lifelike appearance.

Question: Will the restoration look natural?

Answer: Yes. Unlike amalgam ones, bonded fillings contain no metal. Instead they contain a composite resin that can be shaded to match surrounding tooth structure. The result is a restoration that looks natural, so no one but you and our team will know you have a filling.

Question: What if the tooth is broken?

Answer: If you have a broken tooth, whether the result of injury or advanced decay weakening the tooth, we can offer dental bonding. As mentioned above, this uses the same material as bonded fillings. We first etch the surface of the tooth so the material better adheres to the surface. As we cure the material we will sculpt the tooth and then polish it. If you have any questions about our fillings or dental bonding procedures, please contact our office today.
