Can Teens Wear Clear Braces?

Teenagers often require orthodontic treatment to correct misalignment. Otherwise, they run the risk of developing a number of dental health issues, including tooth decay, gum disease, TMJ disorder, and potentially even bruxism (teeth grinding). However, many teens often avoid orthodontic treatment because they are anxious about wearing metal braces for as long as two years. Can teens wear clear braces? Yes, and we offer a clear alternative to metal braces with the Invisalign system.

The Invisalign System

Dr. Gilly Calcagno is an Invisalign Preferred Provider, a distinction few dental professionals in the nation have. To begin the process, we offer a free cosmetic consultation. We can exam your teeth to see if this is the best option for you. If so, we will take images and impressions of your teeth, which will be sent to a special Invisalign lab, where experts will fabricate the aligners.

Once they are complete, you will wear an aligner every day for between 20 and 22 hours, upgrading to a new set about once every two weeks. For an added convenience, you can remove the aligners before eating or brushing/flossing your teeth.

Clear Braces for Teens

We can often prescribe this cosmetic option for patients over the age of 16 who have minor misalignment. For teens, Invisalign offers as much as six replacement aligners. Whether they become damaged or lost. This can help parents who fear the cost of replacing lost aligners. In addition, each aligner contains a blue dot on the end. If the clear braces are worn as recommended, the blue dot simply wears away. Parents and dental professionals can easily monitor the usage. The entire treatment period will typically take about 18 months for teen patients. If you have any questions, please contact out office today.
