How Does Your Dentist Spot Dental Diseases?

One of the most important aspects of keeping your smile as healthy and beautiful as can be is prevention, or at least quick action in the event that a dental disease does develop. Hence the need for regular dental checkups and cleanings in addition to practicing good hygiene at home. During your visits with your dentist, we’ll not only thoroughly clean the plaque and tartar you might have missed, but we’ll also perform a comprehensive inspection to detect what you can’t see by looking into your own mirror.

The Point of a Dental Checkup

The American Dental Association (ADA) recommends visiting the dentist at least once every six months for a routine teeth cleaning and exam. The reason stems from the fact that most dental diseases, like tooth decay and gum disease, can develop and progress before they exhibit symptoms that you can notice. However, these issues also give off telltale signs in their earliest stages that we can catch using an array of advanced diagnostic equipment.

Advanced Dental Diagnostics

If dental treatment is needed, then an accurate diagnosis is the cornerstone of restoring your good dental health. For optimal comfort and safety, we utilize advanced equipment that shortens your time at the office while minimizing your risks of X-ray exposure.

Digital X-rays

Like traditional X-rays, digital X-rays take a clear image of your teeth, gums, jawbone, and surrounding oral structures. The difference is that digital X-rays produce up to 80% less radiation than photography-based imaging, and the pictures are instantly available for you and your dentist to view together.

Intra-oral Camera

Usually used in conjunction with digital X-rays, our intra-oral camera allows us to take high-resolution digital pictures of the inside of your mouth to store in your electronic chart. The pictures give an accurate baseline of your dental health so we can precisely track any changes during subsequent visits.
